He never runs out of energy
Toygers have endless energy and will exhaust you first
Its raining outside today which means Simba has been bouncing off the walls since he woke up. And I mean that literally, I watched him run up the side of the bookshelf earlier like it was nothing. Just launched himself sideways and scrambled up. I knew toygers were supposed to be high energy before I got him, the breeder mentioned it multiple times actually, but I don't think I really understood what that actually meant in practice until now. Living it is different than hearing about it.
So tonight I decided okay, we're going to have a proper play session. A real one. Gonna tire this cat out so I can maybe eat my dinner in peace for once without him trying to steal food off my plate. Started with fetch because yes, my cat plays fetch like a dog. He goes absolutely crazy for these little foam balls I got at the pet store. I threw it across the kitchen floor, he sprinted after it, brought it back, dropped it at my feet. Repeat. I threw it maybe fifty times? Honestly lost count after a while. Twenty minutes in and my arm was getting tired from throwing but he was still sprinting across the tile floor like it was the very first throw. Not even slightly winded.
I gave up on fetch eventually and switched to the wand toy. The one with the feathers on the end that he loves more than anything. He was jumping like three feet straight up in the air to catch it. Very impressive actually. Also very exhausting for me because I have to stand there waving this thing around like an idiot while he does acrobatics. My shoulder was starting to hurt from all the waving. He did not care about my shoulder. Every single time I tried to stop and take a break he would just stare at the wand with those big golden eyes and make these little chirpy meow sounds at me. Demanding more.
Finally, FINALLY, after what felt like an hour but was probably more like forty minutes, he flopped over on the kitchen floor. Panting. Actually panting with his tongue out and everything. I was like yes, victory at last. I won. I actually managed to tire out this tiny chaos tornado. I sat down on the couch feeling very accomplished and also like I had just completed a full cardio workout. My legs were sore from squatting to throw the ball.
That lasted maybe ten minutes. Possibly less. Then I heard a noise and looked over to see him up again, batting at the cord on the window blinds like nothing had happened. I give up honestly. I genuinely do not understand how one small eight month old cat has this much energy stored in his body. The breeder did warn me that toygers are more active than regular cats but this is really something else entirely. He's been awake and causing chaos since 6am this morning and its now almost 9pm and he's currently trying to knock a pen off my desk while I'm writing this. Just staring at it, pawing at it, watching it roll. I'm gonna need to invest in one of those cat exercise wheels or something because I physically cannot keep up with his demands. My legs hurt from playing with a cat. This is my life now I guess. Send help.
