Okay so quick update for everyone who was asking. We got the little koala to a vet. It was not easy. We eventually decided we had to separate them, and the little thing was NOT happy about it. As soon as I gently tried to lift it off Asha's back, it made this angry hissing sound. It was kind of scary but also sad, it was obviously terrified. It was clinging on so tight. Asha was so good, she just stayed still the whole time.

We wrapped it in a warm towel and put it in a carrier and drove straight to the vet. I was so anxious the whole way, worried it was hurt or sick from being out in the cold all night. The vet was amazing, she knew exactly what to do. She gave it a full checkup and said it was actually in really good shape. No injuries, not dehydrated, just very young and obviously separated from its mum.

She said we absolutely did the right thing by bringing it in. And she confirmed that Asha's warmth probably saved it. It felt so good to hear that. I was worried we'd done something wrong. The vet has now put us in touch with a proper licensed wildlife carer who specializes in koalas. They're going to come and pick the joey up soon, so it can be looked after with other koalas until it's big enough to go back to the wild.

Now we're just home and waiting. It's weirdly quiet. Asha keeps going to the back porch and sniffing around the spot where she was lying. I think she misses her little friend. It's so strange, she had a passenger for less than a day but she seems to have really bonded with it. Or maybe she's just confused about where it went. I feel bad we had to take it away, even though I know it was the right thing.

I feel bad we had to separate them. Do you think the mom is looking for it?
